Academic management training

I provide bespoke training sessions for individual academic managers and/or the academic management team (from Senior Teacher, Coordinator, Centre Manager, ADOS, DOS, up to and including the Principal) with the aim of setting the highest management standards and ensuring they are sustained in the long term, thereby making the institution more efficient and, ultimately, improving the student experience and feedback.

Some examples of training focuses:

  • Observation training (peer, informal, developmental, formal/assessed)
  • Structuring and delivering in-house CPD
  • Problem solving via action learning
  • Staff appraisals
  • Recruitment and induction of new teachers
  • Conflict resolution

Bespoke services: inspection success

I also provide a tailored consultative service to address specific challenges your institution faces. One of the most common, and the most challenging, is achieving success in external inspection such as EAQUALS, British Council, ELT Council, Ofsted, etc.

I will work with you and your management team to evaluate your current status (for example, by carrying out a mock inspection), identify key areas for improvement, and then train your managers and teachers to ensure inspection success on the day.

Having inspected and been inspected, I’m ideally placed to help you to optimal performance.

Testimonials

Maria, Academic Coordinator

“If you want to develop and upskill your academic managers, and to raise standards of teaching and learning across the board, you need Paul!”

"Paul carried out formal observation training with our academic management team, and it was excellent! He has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and cares deeply about high standards. Thanks to him, I understand observations should be systematic and evidence-led; I can collect appropriate evidence effectively and fairly, and use it to evaluate the quality of classroom teaching with specific reference to the learner experience. And I can give pedagogically-based, helpful and accurate feedback to my teachers framed in a way that doesn’t shirk a hard conversation but which remains supportive and human at all times.

So yes, I feel really confident as a classroom observer now. Paul’s method is direct, energetic, methodologically sound, and full of insight and tips, but he also listens to his trainees carefully: he’s very supportive in his approach. If you want to develop and upskill your academic managers, and to raise standards of teaching and learning across the board, you need Paul!"
