My Story
Paul Atkins
DELTA,
MA in Applied Linguistics
Hi, my name’s Paul Atkins and I’ve spent my career as an educator: a teacher, teacher-trainer and academic manager. I’ve worked in English language schools, the UK State education sector, and as a freelance consultant.
My approach? Learners: to me, as a successful learner you are focused, open to new ideas, and set high standards for yourself and your teacher. And, of course, enjoys your studies! My lessons focus on your needs as an individual, but typically involve a strong spoken focus, and a commitment to widening your productive language – your English isn’t measured by what you understand, but what you can say. I’m funny, dynamic and empathetic, and I’ll bring 35 years of knowledge and experience to teaching you faster and better than you thought possible.
Teachers: successful language learning is guided by a teacher with excellent teaching techniques rooted in a deep understanding of the language itself, and of how teaching and learning works. A really good teacher doesn’t appear overnight, or by accident of birth. They have worked at their craft and consciously grown their skills and knowledge of the twin pillars of our profession: language and pedagogy. They are reflective and open to new ideas, too. I believe that high-quality teaching is grounded in learner-centric, reflective practice, and continually growth and development: all of us, myself included, are works in progress.
And finally… it’s OK not to know all the answers, but you must at least ask the questions!
Awards
My teaching has been recognized with the ELT Award at the 11th ELT Malta Conference in 2022, yet the greatest validation comes from students’ success stories and their heartfelt appreciation.
These dual forms of recognition – official and personal – drive my continued commitment to exceptional English education.
